Validating laboratory procurement with Salesforce B2B Commerce

A laboratory buyer returns from punchout with a reagent cart. Before submission, Salesforce B2B Commerce carries the buying account through contract pricing, eligible lot selection and cold-chain validation.

The situation

A reagent reorder carried contract and fulfillment rules

A laboratory buyer could return from a procurement system with a reagent cart that lacked the account context needed for contract pricing. The requested quantity also had to come from eligible lots, with temperature-controlled items kept within the permitted shipping path.

For laboratory procurement, the right catalog item may still be unsuitable if the contract price is wrong, the available lot does not meet expiry requirements, or the shipment cannot follow the required temperature conditions. Discovering those issues late can create purchasing rework and disrupt planned laboratory work.

The challenge

The cart crossed identity, inventory and shipping rules

The punchout session identifies the buying organization, inventory services determine lot eligibility, and fulfillment rules determine whether the basket can travel together. The cart must carry those references consistently as it moves between systems.

The solution

Shinetech connected the procurement cart to contract and fulfillment rules

Salesforce B2B Commerce provided the buyer-facing cart and validation path. Shinetech connected punchout account context with contract, lot and shipping checks so the buyer could understand which requirement affected the request. Source systems retained responsibility for price, stock and fulfillment policy.

01

Punchout identity selects the buying account and its permitted contract tier.

02

Inventory responses limit the choice to lots that meet product and expiry rules.

03

Basket validation checks whether temperature and shipping requirements can travel together.

How we work

Trace the procurement cart across each check

The implementation method follows a single procurement cart from the buying organization’s session to order submission. Account and contract references establish the commercial context; lot and shipping responses determine whether the requested basket can proceed. Each failure needs a buyer-facing explanation that supports a useful correction.

The procurement path is illustrated with an expired session, changed contract, ineligible lot and incompatible cold-chain basket. A valid request retained the references needed for downstream handling.

Each blocked condition should identify the rule and responsible system, helping the buyer or support team determine the next correction.

The result

A valid buying choice before order submission

Laboratory buyer

The buyer sees a specific reason when contract price, lot or shipping conditions block the requested cart.

Order processing

The submitted request retains the account, contract and allocation context needed for downstream handling.

The intended business benefit is a purchase request that already carries its commercial and fulfillment context, with blocked conditions visible while the buyer can still correct the cart.
