Wear Red, Stay Healthy and Keep Innovating

Awareness, healthy lifestyle habits and advances in technology can help fight heart disease!

Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. Women are the focus of this campaign because the AHA discovered that cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. AHA encourages and coordinates various events and uses all revenues from local and National Go Red For Women activities to support awareness, research, education and community programs to benefit women.

Paying attention, raising awareness and supporting the programs is something every one of us can do – women, men, at work and home with our families.

According to AHA’s research, a woman who commits to “Go Red”:

•    follows an exercise routine

•    eats healthier diet

•    visits her doctor for essential tests

•    and influences others by talking about heart health

At Shinetech we try to support a healthy work-life balance. As software engineers or operational staff, we might have long and busy days so it is important to be mindful of the small choices we can make. Go for a short walk after lunch (our favorite!), use the dedicated “break room exercise corner” (plank challenge!) and enjoy the fresh fruits and abundant green tea provided by our lovely HR colleagues. As team activity, we encourage and enjoy activities like hiking and flag football. Good for the heart, good for the mind.

Also being a software company gives us at Shinetech an opportunity to participate in healthcare software development that brings a positive impact on many lives. The use cases of software in healthcare are countless. IoT devices and the combination of metrics from wearables, medical data and patient records can be instrumental in tracking and providing preventative care.

Patient Engagement Platforms improve the ease of communication between doctors and patients and ensure the various dimensions of the health services are all available in one place to provide a comprehensive care plan. Big data, AI, and cloud services all play a big role in optimizing the diagnostics, operations and for example appointment scheduling so everyone can receive the care they need.

So today we encourage everyone to wear red, think about their heart health and make a commitment.
